The two divisions of the nerve,which are distribiited to the first four fingers, may he exposed by the same incisionas that for the deep pahnar arch. An incision is carried through the skin and the strong anterior annnlar ligamentat the junction of the thenar and hypo-thenar eminences. The large nerve lies uponthe common flexor sheath and divides into two divisions, the outer supplying thethenar muscles (with the exception of the adductor), both sides of the thumb, and theouter side of the index finger; the inner supplying the two outer lumbricals, the ulnarside of the index, both sides of the middle and the radial side of the ring finger(Fig. 122).
