The oral cavity is lined with mucous membrane which is alwaysmoist in health. The part of the cavity between the lips and theteeth is the vestibule. The mouth contains the teeth and the tongue. The teeth are already described. The tongue lies in the floor of the mouth with its base curveddownward at the back and attached to the hyoid bone. When the frenum isshort we say the tongue is tied. A little clip with the scissors is often sufficient to free it, but this is done withcare as an artery runs forward very near the frenum.
