Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Plaquette with the story about the "Teufelsstein von St. Marien" (engl.: "Devils stone of St. Marien"): When starting building St Marien, the devil was helping to raise the walls, for he thought, this would become a taverne - a place, where it would be easy for the devil to earn some souls. When it recognized it was mistaken, the devil angrily threw a long stone, to burst the new walls. But one of the workers stopped the throw by promising to build a tavern in the very neighborhood of the church, which the devil agreed and landed the stone right at the new churches walls, leaving some clear to be seen scratches of its claws on it. In fact, the "Ratsweinstube" was erected close by as the tavern of the major and the members of his government.
Deutsch: Tafel mit der Kurzfassung der Legende vom Teufelsstein von St. Marien, auf dem die Statue sitzt. Die Tafel hängt an der Außenmauer der Kirche in unmittelbarer Nähe von Stein und Figur.
