Description

Half phase Tethys seen at a distance of 645,000 km on October 5, 2005. This is an extended RGB image using images taken through Cassini's UV3, GRN, and IR1 filters. Subtle color differences can be seen on the surface. These differences are produced by a thin coating of fresh water ice originating from Enceladus' geysers. As this material spirals inwards towards Saturn, it accumulates on the leading edge of the moons.
