The Terra satellite opened up a new era in the agency's ability to observe Earth from space when it launched on Dec. 18, 1999. Designed for a five-year mission life, Terra is still going strong, and has made invaluable measurements of the land, ocean and atmosphere at a time of critical change for our home planet.

Happy 15th, Terra.
