Title
Temporary tents erected after fire, looking southwest from 2nd Ave. across Yesler Way, June 1889
Original caption
Temporary tents erected after fire near 2nd Ave. S. and S. Washington St., June 1889
Description

Transcribed from photograph: "Fire. June 6, 1889. Reconstruction. Looking southwest from Second Avenue and Washington Street." Transcribed from index card accompanying photograph:" Looking southwest from Third Avenue and Washington Street. Slorah reference may be incorrect. Andrew Slorah worked at Occidental Hotel and E.C. Slorah listed as running a tavern by that name 1890. Entry for Slorah family name."

Good call on this not being Third and Washington. Compare File:Reconstruction near 2nd Ave. and James St., June 1889 - DPLA - 0df407545ed8306ef52c9c1d7e28cca2.jpg. Clearly the same tents, with the ruins of the Occidental Hotel visible, and that "Slorah's" tent is at the southeast corner of Occidental and Yesler, where the Interurban Building is as of 2023.
