| Description | Temporary sump station piping is in place, shown Oct. 2, 2013, and ready to pump storm waters from the low-lying River Park neighborhood of Sacramento, Calif., into the American River. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District expects to reopen this levee section to the public in November and will return next summer to complete installation of a seepage wall running underneath the sump station's piping. The district built more than 20 miles of seepage cutoff walls into American River levees between 2000 and 2002, but work was set aside for later where construction was complicated by encroachments like utilities, power lines, bridges and sump stations.
