Español: Tercera sección municipal de la provincia de José Miguel de Velasco, el templo de San Rafael fue construido al estilo barroco entre 1743 y 1747 por el padre Martin Schmid, con la ayuda de la población nativa y la primera iglesia restaurada por Hans Roth.
Fue fundada en 1696 por los padres Juan Bautista Zeas y Juan Francisco Hervas, siendo trasladado en 1701 al lugar actual, en 1719 ocurre un gran incendio en el poblado y en 1721 la población era tan grande que tuvieron que dividir la misión en dos. Declarado patrimonio cultural de la Humanidad por la UNESCO y monumento nacional por el gobierno.
