“En el templo de San Cristóbal del Montecillo, en el barrio con el mismo nombre, en esta ciudad capital, se realizó la obra de rehabilitación de la instalación eléctrica, debido a que el monumento histórico y su acervo artístico corría el riesgo de sufrir un corto circuito y provocar con ello un incendio, debido a que la misma era obsoleta, adicionado a las improvisaciones, con severas cargas y sin una distribución adecuada en circuitos” señaló la arquitecta María Concepción Nava Muñiz, directora general de Patrimonio Cultural de la Secretaría de Cultura.

La funcionaría cultural, detalló “para la rehabilitación de la Instalación Eléctrica del Templo se invirtió la cantidad de cien mil pesos, con ello se efectúo el retiro de todo el equipo y cables del inmueble. Se realizó el proyecto de la distribución de cargas y circuitos eléctricos por zonas, integrando el equipo de alimentación eléctrica, centro de carga, el tablero de control interruptores de seguridad, protección de cableado con tubería, instalación de conductores, de luminarias y reflectores tipo proyector de alta lumicidad de malogéno”.

La titular de Patrimonio Cultural de la Secretaría de Cultura, mencionó que el Barrio se fundó a finales del siglo XVII y que la iglesia se comenzó a construir en el año de 1730 y finalizó en 1747. María Concepción Nava Muñiz detalló que la torre de la iglesia se construyó en 1807, además de que la iglesia de cruz latina se veía al poniente donde se encontraba su atrio y en ese entonces daba a una plaza donde tiempo después se edificó una plaza de toros que estaba a la altura de las vías del tren.

Nava Muñiz destacó que en el año de 1955 se recubrió la facha original con loza de cantera. Además la arquitecta subrayó que la iglesia fue bicaria de la parroquia de San Luis y el 25 de abril de 1976 se convierte en parroquia. Finalmente la responsable de la dirección de Patrimonio Cultural de la Secretaría de Cultura, mencionó que la ultima rehabilitación del templo de San Cristóbal del Montecillo se dio en el año de 1992 cuando se rehabilitó la azotea y se retiraron una serie de agregados que se habían construido arbitrariamente.
