Sur l'autel, la Déesse Thiên Hâu est entourée de deux gardiens Thiên Hậu (appelée aussi Mazu) est une divinité traditionnelle chinoise, vénérée dans les provinces maritimes du sud de la Chine (Canton,..) et dans les communautés chinoises expatriées, comme ici à Hô Chi Minh-vville, l'ancienne Saïgon. On trouve des temples semblables à Hoi An (Vietnam). voir aussi : www.flickr.com/photos/dalbera/4411152164/ C'est une Déesse-mère (Dame de la mer, Dame céleste,..), protectrice des marins mais elle est également priée par les femmes en particulier pour avoir des enfants. Les prières qui lui sont faites peuvent être inscrites sur des papiers rouges qui sont brulés dans un poële dans la cour du temple pour que la fumée emporte les requêtes jusqu'à elle. Les offrandes à la Déesse sont de divers types : bâtons et spirales d'encens, fruits, argent,. Selon les croyances populaires, des âmes errantes se trouvent aussi dans le temple, ce sont celles des morts qui ne reçoivent pas de culte ou celles de damnés, ces âmes peuvent être dangereuses pour les vivants, il faut donc tenter de les satisfaire, en leur faisant des offrandes et en leur rendant un culte particulier. Le temple taoïste Thien Hâu a été construit au début du XIXe siècle (1827), il est situé au coeur du quartier chinois de Cholon, près du marché de gros. |
