| Description | This is part of the ruins of the Temple of Caesar, also known as the Temple of Divus Iulius. It began construction in 42 BC, when Julius Caesar was deified posthumously by the senate. It was dedicated by Augustus in 29 BC, and is built on the site where Julius Caesar was cremated. It survived intact until the 15th century, when its stone was scavenged for use in new churches and palaces. Only parts of the cement platform remain. |
