| Description |
English: Temperance Hall - Newbury. The Temperance Hall is situated in Northcroft Lane. When this picture was taken c1980 the building was much decayed. The masonry quoins are inscribed with catchy mottoes such as "The Drunkard shall come to Poverty" as shown in the inset. Another was "Strong Drink is Raging. It Stingeth Like an Adder". Google information is that it now functions as the "Little Bears Nursery". |
