במקום זה שכן המטה הקדמי של כוחות האצ"ל (הארגון הצבאי הלאומי) שתקפו את יפו הערבית במלחמת העצמאות, לאחר שורת התקפות וצליפות על שכונות הספר היהודיות ועל תל-אביב.
מכאן יצאו הפקודות לכוח הלוחם בעת המבצע לשחרור יפו, שנמשך מיום ט"ז ועד כ' בניסן תש"ח (25 עד 29 באפריל 1948).
בחצר המבנה היו ממוקמות שתי מרגמות 3 אינטש אשר הפגיזו את יפו וסייעו לכניעתה.

This was site for the front-line headquarters of the Etzel forces that marched on Arab Yafo following a series of attacks and sharp shootings at the Jewish border neighbourhoods and at the city of Tel Aviv.
It was from here that the fighting forces received their orders during the campaign to liberate Yafo, between the 16th and 20th day of Nissan, 5708, April 25-29, 1948.
Two 3 inch mortars were placed in the courtyard bombarding Yafo, thus contributing to its surrender.
