Description
Deutsch: Die Figuren der Kirchenpatrone schmücken die beiden Pfeiler, die die Vorhalle des Haupteingangs stützen: Antonius mit der Glocke, Johannes der Täufer mit dem Lamm, Maria mit dem Kind und Martin mit dem Schwert, mit dem er gerade seinen Mantel teilt. Nur Vinzenz fehlt. Vermutlich wurde er durch die Figur der Maria ersetzt. Eine Marienfigur wiederum mag dem Schmerzensmann am Mittelpfeiler zwischen den beiden Türen gewichen sein, der nun die Eintretenden freundlich empfängt: „Kommt her zu mir alle, die ihr mühselig und beladen seid; ich will euch erquicken“ (Matthäus 11,28). Das Bogenfeld über den Türen erzählt von der Erschaffung der Welt und vom Sündenfall. Vom Ursprung her auf das Ziel zu führt der Weg dieser Kirche, die von Westen nach Osten ausgerichtet ist. Markant: der Elefant im Relfief ist in Anlehung an alte Schachfiguren mit einem Turm ausgestattet. Vermutlich diente dem Steinmetz eine solche Spielfigur als Vorlage. Quelle: ulmer-muenster.de
