[edit]DescriptionTeddy 2020-09-17 2030Z.jpg |
English: This true-color image of Hurricane Teddy was captured shortly before sunset on September 17, 2020, at 4:30 P.M. AST (20:30 UTC), by the Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI) instrument flying aboard NOAA's GOES 16 satellite. Teddy was a longed lived tropical system that originated from the Main Development Region during the record-breaking 2020 Atlantic hurricane season in mid-September 2020. It was the earliest 19th named storm on record it was also the eighth hurricane and second major hurricane of that season. Also, Teddy would grow into a powerful extratropical system by Atlantic Canada nearly a week later. It was the fifth-largest hurricane on record (in terms of gale-force winds) before becoming an extratropical cyclone. When this was captured Teddy was over the open Atlantic Ocean nearing its peak intensity as a Category 4 Major Hurricane. It was packing winds of 140 mph (230 km/h) (120 knots) on the 1-min Saffir-Simpson scale and had a minimum central pressure of 946 mbar (27.9 inHg) when this satellite image was captured. |
