Eesti: Nolgus (Myoxocephalus scorpius L.) on püütud ja väljatiritud merepõhjast - kodusest hallist vaikusest
lämmatavasse valgusse. Tema ohver pole siiski päris asjatu. Peagi mõõdetakse ta morfoloogilised parameetrid nagu kaal ja pikkus ning määratakse vanus. Sellistest seirepüükidest saadud andmestik jõuab lõpuks Põllumajandusministeeriumi lauale koos analüüsiga hetke kalavarude olukorrast ning soovitustega järgmise aasta püügilubade arvu osas. Sellega veel pole kalade teadusalane teekond otsa saanud, veel on neil midagi anda. Mõni teadusehuviline soovib koguda kalade kuulmekivikesi ehk otoliite, et nende keemilisel analüüsil saada teada millised ühendid olid kala kasvamisel tema keskkonnas esindatud. Kaladel on kombeks veega läbi lõpuste uhatavaid aineid otoliitides salvestada. Kalateadlastele aga pakub huvi, kas nende ühendite põhjal on võimalik tuvastada konkreetse isendi sünnipiirkond ja saada infot tema rändeteedest. Teistele teadlastele jälle pakub huvi veekeskkonna puhtus. Nad võtavad kaladelt maksa, sapi, uriini ja lihasproove ning üritavad leida selliseid kala tervisenäitajaid, mida saaks kasutada varajase reostuse avastamiseks. Kiiresti avalduvad muutujad kala organismis, mida kutsuvad esile juba väikestes kogustes toksiinid on head biomarkerid, mida kasutada veekeskkonna puhtuse indikaatoritena. Lõpuks kui ka kalade sisemine ilu on risti-põiki uuritud ning väljatoodud ongi neist vaid luu, nahk ja liha järel. Raisata pole ka siin midagi. Peale suitsuahjus käimist seisab kaladel ees viimane akadeemilis kulinaarne ülesanne - teadlaste kõhu täitmine. |
