Description
Français : Taverne J. A. Laporte, rue Saint-Jacques à Saint-Henri, entre Desnoyers et Saint-Rémi, Montréal
« La taverne J. A. Laporte est, comme la majorité des trois cents débits de boisson de Montréal de l’époque, un lieu de rencontre pour les ouvriers où on ne vend que de la bière. En cette année 1928, une loi interdit désormais l’entrée aux femmes dans les tavernes, même si, on s’en doute, elles ne représentent alors qu’une très faible portion de la clientèle. Ce n’est qu’en 1979 que le débat sur le droit d’accès des femmes aux tavernes s’ouvrira à nouveau. Ce droit leur sera finalement accordé en 1986. » – archivesdemontreal.com
