Description

O ciclo reprodutivo das tartarugas marinhas é complexo e envolve migrações de longas distâncias entre áreas de alimentação e reprodução. No Brasil, populações de tartarugas-verdes estão fortemente associadas às ilhas oceânicas, localidades onde estes animais completam seu ciclo reprodutivo, buscando nestas praias locais para a postura de ovos. A tartaruga-verde desova em Atol das Rocas, Fernando de Noronha e Ilha da Trindade, sendo a última o principal sítio reprodutivo da espécie no país, onde ocorrem cerca de 75% das desovas, e o segundo maior local de desova da espécie no Atlântico Sul. Somada a isso, a baixa interferência humana no ecossistema faz com que a Ilha da Trindade seja uma das áreas prioritárias para a conservação da espécie no mundo.
