Description
English: Cropped version of a photograph of the facade of the Town Hall of Tarascon, showing a statue of Martha and the Tarasque
Français : L'Hôtel de Ville, construit en 1648, est orné sur sa façade d’une statue de sainte Marthe terrassant la Tarasque, œuvre du sculpteur tarasconnais Louis Le Mâle. Le choix des consuls (anciens officiers municipaux) porté sur une iconographie religieuse, rare pour un bâtiment civil, se justifie peut-être par les dons d’accueil de Marthe, considérée par l’Église comme « hôtesse du Christ ».[1]
