Summary
[edit]DescriptionTapeats Sandstone (Cambrian; Grand Canyon, Arizona, USA) 1.jpg |
English: Quartzose sandstone from the Cambrian of Arizona, USA. (vintage specimen, ex-museum)
Sandstone is the # 2 most siliciclastic sedimentary rock on Earth. As the name suggests, it is principally composed of sand-sized particles, which are between 2 and 1/16 of a millimeter in size. Sandstone is dominated by silicate minerals, usually quartz, but feldspar, mica, and rock fragments can be common components. Stratigraphy: Tapeats Sandstone, lower Tonto Group, Lower to Middle Cambrian Locality: Tonto Rim, Grand Canyon of the Colorado River, northern Arizona, USA |
