Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Tantallon Doocot. Of the lectern type, the most characteristic of Scotland. The doocot consists of a square tower with mono-pitch roof almost always sloping to the south, with crow-stepped gables, and entry holes horizontally across the roof. Pigeons were farmed as a delicacy and were allowed to feed freely from the surrounding fields. However, attitudes changed and their feeding from crops was seen as a nuisance and doocots went into decline.
