Description
English: Bronze two-part pass (paizi) with four character inscription in the Tangut script inlaid in silver. Western Xia (1038-1227). The Tangut inscription reads "𗿢𗯼𘆝𗪊" meaning "By imperial command, a pass to burn the horses" (i.e. to ride with great urgency) (translated as 敕燃馬牌 in Chinese). National cat. no. B52-001.
