Summary
[edit]DescriptionTanglin Halt Hawkers Association Plaque.jpg |
English: "In the 1960s, Queenstown attracted itinerant hawkers from both within and outside the new satellite town. These itinerant hawkers sold their food items along Margaret Drive, Commonwealth Crescent and Tanglin Halt Road. Itinerant hawkers were banned in 1973, with food centres such as the former Commonwealth Avenue Cooked Food Centre established to “keep the housing estate free of roadside hawkers”, in the words of then Minister for Culture Jek Yuen Thong.
