English: Mahabu Tamo Baha: Kavaya Chhe or Tamo Baha is located in ward no 27. The monastery is about 5 minutes away from Bir Hospital on the way to Mahabuddha. There is a small white stupa in front of this very artistic style monastery and there is even a small temple nearby. In this sanctum sanctorum of Bihar, there is a very attractive and beautiful statue of Buddha in black. There are idols of various deities on the right and left side of the main gate and there is also a small chaitya in front of the main gate. This Bahal is also called Tavah Baha in the vernacular, but in fact this Bahal is called Bodhi Pranidhi Bihar. Proof of when and by whom this Bihar was built has not been found yet. This Bihar is considered as the restoration of Maha Bihar in Ukuma Mahabihar, i.e. the branch of Mahabuddha Bihar. It is believed that this monastery and Bahal were donated by the copper miners here in 746 AD. According to the inscription here, it is mentioned in the inscription that a statue of Manjushree was erected on the wall of the temple and a chaitya was built between the Bahals in the year 964 BS.
Completely damaged by the catastrophic earthquake of 2072 BS, the reconstruction work was completed in August, 2078 BS at a total cost of Rs.74,14,363 . According to Sangharatna Shakya, chairman of Mahabuddha Vihar Guthi, the reconstruction work will be completed and inaugurated in about five to six months. |
