He was poor and hadnothing else to send. But his cat wassold for some pieces of gold in a landwhere there were many mice and rats,but no cats to catch them. This gold was a help to Dick. Heworked hard and soon made moremoney, and by and by he became a richmerchant like his old master. Then he was made Lord Maj^or ofLondon, once, twice, three times. Thelast time he was mayor, he gave a finefeast to the king and queen. And theking made him a knight and called himSir Richard Whittington. Sir Eichard did not spend all hismoney on himself.
