Description
English: Japan is preparing for Tropical Storm Talas, as its northward movement puts it on track to make landfall near the city of Tokushima around 0000z on September 3rd. The storm is currently positioned around 300 miles south of the mainland. The latest advisory from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center has maximum sustained winds at around 63 mph. This colorized infrared image from the Japanese Meteorological Agency’s MTSAT satellite was taken on September 1, 2011 at 1330z. MTSAT is similar to NOAA’s GOES satellites, and provides geostationary coverage over the Western Pacific and Eastern Asia. NOAA and JMA share data from their respective satellite systems, which results in more comprehensive global Earth observations and more accurate weather forecasts.
