This is the second coin minted by the Song. The calligraphy of this coin was done by the second emperor, Tai Zong (r. 976-998), and was only issued in the formal script. I like this particular coin for the roundedness of the characters as they emerge from the surface. Note that there is an Annam royal issue with the same characters, and issued from 1737 大平通寳 |
