[edit]
Description
English: Engraving based on a photograph showing Sultan Hummad bin Muhammad (Mohammed "Leitah") of Tadjoura, now in Djibouti, with Afar chiefs c. 1885-1889. The engraving accompanied an article in the 21 April 1889 issue of Le Journal des Voyages about the attempt by Russian Cossack Nikolay Ivanovitch Achinov to establish a Russian settlement at Sagalo, near Tadjoura, at the end of 1888. The Sultan had allegedly granted him land for the project.
