Description

Western Brook Pond, Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland. Another feature of the landscape at Western Brook Pond are the so-called "hanging valleys" that provide breaks in the sheer granite cliffs that surround the lake otherwise. These valleys are the work of the glaciers that covered Gros Morne 9,000 years ago: you might call them tributaries of the great river of seaward-flowing ice that carved out Western Brook Pond itself. However, unlike the main glacier, it did not scour the floor of the valley below the present-day sea level, so it never became part of the lake.

Estanque Western Brook, Parque Nacional Gros Morne, Terranova.
