Description

Near Channel-Port aux Basques, Newfoundland. A view of the Twin Hills (left) and Table Mountain (right) taken from just north of the Little Barachois River on the Trans-Canada Highway, about seven and a half miles (12.5km) past the ferry terminal.

A bit of history: between the outbreak of World War II and some time in the early 1960s, there was a U.S. Air Force radar station at Table Mountain manned by between ten and fourteen men at any given time. If you go to the top of the mountain you can still see the ruins of barracks and other buildings, though they're slowly being razed.

Ceci est assez typique du paysage entre Port-aux-Basques et Corner Brook, et j'ai pris beaucoup de photos comme celle-ci quand j'étais là. Malheureusement, la feuille de papier sur laquelle j'ai écrit les légendes pour ces photos a été souflée dans une rafale de vent plus tard ce jour-là à Gros-Morne, donc les seules que j'ai gardé sont celles dont les descriptions il m'est arrivé de se rappeler.

Un peu d'histoire: entre le déclenchement de la Seconde Guerre mondiale et quelquie temps au début des années 1960, il y avait une station radar de la Force aérienne des États-Units sur la montagne Table qui était tenue par entre dix et quatorze hommes à un moment donné. Celui qui va au sommet de la montagne encore peut voir les ruines des casernes et d'autres bâtiments, même qu'on les rase peu à peu.
