Downtown, Halifax, Nova Scotia. Alexander Keith's Brewery is located on Lower Water Street at the far south end of downtown, a short distance north of the seaport. Its namesake was a giant in Nova Scotia history: Alexander Keith was a Highland Scot who was born in 1795 and emigrated to Halifax in his early twenties, founding his brewery in 1820. Keith prospered in his trade and ended up being elected Mayor of Halifax for three terms, which he followed up with a thirty-year career in the provincial legislature. As for his business, it's now a subsidiary of Labatt and one of the oldest continually operating breweries in North America. Alexander Keith's is famous across Canada (and, increasingly, also in the United States) for its India Pale Ale. Centre-ville, Halifax, Nouvelle-Écosse.
