Summary

[edit]
Description

Spring Garden, Halifax, Nova Scotia. St. Mary's Cathedral Basilica, viewed from the Old Burying Ground. The oldest Catholic church in the city - dating to 1784, shortly after the repeal of Nova Scotia's law against Catholicism - St. Mary's is the seat of the Archdiocese of Halifax and a National Historic Site of Canada. The church is so large that when the current structure was built in 1820, the Archdiocese had to hire shipbuilders to construct the roof as they would the hull of a ship, because no other carpenters or craftsmen in the city had any experience working on such a gargantuan building.

Spring Garden, Halifax, Nueva Escocia.
