[edit]DescriptionTRX républic 1909.JPG |
Français : station radiotélégraphique du paquebot Républic vers 1909 .
English: Wireless telegraphy station on board the packet steamer Républic around 1909. One of the first applications of radio was on board ships, to keep in touch with the mother country and call for rescue if they were sinking. The device on the desk is a spark-gap radio transmitter. On the left side is the tuned circuit and spark gap, consisting of 4 Leyden jars and a coil of wire. The boxes on the right side are induction coils providing the high voltage to power the transmitter. In the center is the receiving equipment. The meter on the wall at top left is a hot-wire ammeter to measure the antenna current.
