English: Empire pavilion in Tournai —Built in the early nineteenth century, the pavilion takes the typical characteristics of the Empire style. Classified since 1980, the pavilion is composed of a single level and has four facades. They are all characterized by large rectangular bays and pilasters crowned with Tuscan capital (one of the orders of ancient architecture, also detailed here). The lateral bays of the main facade are blind, that is to say they are not open to a bay. Notice the terracotta medallions placed there, depicting pagan deities. The white plaster, the horizontality of the building (underlined by the cords extending the lintels and thresholds of the bays), the mansard roof, and the Tuscan pilasters and medallions give the building an antique look and place it in a neoclassical movement Empire.
Nederlands: Empire paviljoen in Doornik.
