In the old guide books including Seaton Gordon's 'Highways & Byways of the Central Highlands' an ancient carved stone marked the point most distant from the North Sea and the Atlantic Ocean just south of Newtownmore. This modern iteration was erected in 2015 and sits about 100 yards away from the splendid Clan MacPerson Memorial looking down Glen Truim. The quotation at the bottom of the notice is from Cameron McNeish one of Scotland's foremost outdoor writers and reads: 'A few years ago I walked the length of Scotland and I've walked coat to coast many times. On one of these occasions I was delighted to come across the marker in the old stone dyke at Glen Truim that informed me that I was halfway across and on the 'downhill' section to the sea at Montrose. For those of us who live in Badenoch this has always been the very heart of Scotland, in more ways than one and it is great to see this new stone' CAMERON McNEISH SEATON GORDON 1886 - 1977.
