Description

It looks more like a cut from the feral Trainspotting world of Irvine Welch than a treasured memory of Robert Burns's many links with Kilmarnock, but there you go. The plaque reads: 

                     TAM SAMSON 1723 - 1795

A Seedsman of good credit, a zealous sportsman and a good fellow. This plaque commemorates the site of Simpson's house: Rosebank, which Robert Burns often visited. The plaque replaces one placed here on the wall in 1928 by the Winsome Willie Burns Club".

In 1786 the year that Burns's first publication of: Poems Chiefly in the Scottish Dialect was published in Kilmarnock he also wrote a mock elegy to his friend Tam Samson, a stalwart of the agribusiness of Kilmarnock in the second half of the 1700's .
