Description Washingtonia filifera—California fan palm. The only palm native to California. An indicator of water in the deserts of Arizona, Nevada, and Arizona, palm oases have served since time immemorial as home for humans as well as all sorts of animal and plants. In California, most populations are found along the western side of the Coloradan desert. Photographed at Regional Parks Botanic Garden located in Tilden Regional Park near Berkeley, CA.
