Description
English:
Former Synagogue. Built in between 1852 and 1857 Romantic-Art Nouveau style. Designed by Miklós Busch, architect of Szentes. The interior was created by József Bertakovics, sculptor from Pest (now Budapest part). Organ made in 1897 by János Sonkovics (organ builder of Szeged) It was rebuilt in 1906 according to the plans of Miksa Müller. The architectural sculptures made by József Balla. The gate entrance reminds for the design of the entrances of medieval cathedrals. In 1984, the Israelite community sold the Synagogue to the city. The former Jewish school next to the Synagogue now a Holocaust Memorial Centre, which in addition to the life of faith provides space for events. To mark the30th anniversary of the deportation in 1974, a marble plaque was placed in the foreground of the temple. - Kálvin Square, Szeremlei Street, Hódmezővásárhely, Csongrád-Csanád County, Hungary.
