Notes Privy Councillor's Dress sword and scabbard Sword and scabbard with black proofed cover bag that belonged to Sir William Joseph Jordan, Privy Councillor. migrated to New Zealand in 1904. He was a member of the first New Zealand Labour Party, serving as a Member of Parliament for a number of years. With the election of the first Labour Government in 1935 Jordan was appointed as New Zealand High Commissioner to the UK, a position he held through WW2 until the early 1950s. He was subsequently appointed to the position of Privy Councillor. Worn by Sir William Jordan, New Zealand High Commissioner, London; Privvy Councillor. Note- may have been acquired 2nd hand, as ruling monarch was George V1 during Sir Wm. Jordan’s term in office. Ede and Ravenscroft - . uniform outfitters see reference in Swords to Sea Service. Note- Sword is typical of 19th - 20th century English court Swords
