NOBSTEDT i SÖS B B,KoogL Boktryckare. 1 den ursprungliga planen för den Svenska vetenskapliga expeditionen till Spetsbergenår 1861 ingick, att några af deltagarne skulle under sommaren söka framtränga på polar-isen, så högt emot norden som möjligt. Denna plan måste dock snart öfvergifvas tillfölje deraf, att det af oss begagnade fartyget, skonaren Åeolus, redan i början af vårvistelse å Spetsbergens norra kust, blef instängdt af hög, ogenomtränglig drifis. Allalängre utflygter ifrån fartyget blefvo derigenom alldeles omöjliga, och då isen ändteligerf,efter förloppet af flera veckor, skingrade sig, var redan en så stor del af dessa höga bredd-graders korta sommar förliden, att ett envist fasthållande vid den först tillämnade isfärd
