| Description |
English: Swan by Cemetery Lake, Southampton Common The area of hardstanding on the right is where families come to throw bread at the birds on Cemetery Lake (the 'duck pond'). The staff at the nearby Hawthorns wildlife centre don't recommend this practice - much of the bread is left by the over-fed birds and instead is eaten by rats. There are some very large rats that live around this pond and a 'pest control' team are sometimes seen here shooting the unwanted rodents. |
