Informal and Community Gatherings The stores, pool-rooms and hotels furnish the informal meeting-places of the farmers. The Bowsman reading room is the only placeequipped to meet the need. The Home Economics Societies, as alreadyoaentloned, are undertaking to furnish rest rooms for the farmerswives. The churches should give their hearty support to any move-oaent seeking to provide for the informal meeting of the people. Among the larger community gatherings the Swan River Agri-cultural Fair attracts the largest number. Most of the districts hav«jne picnic during the summer. A few may have two. Some of thearger picnics are attended from far and near. The Harllngton picnic,s one of the largest. Last year the attendance was said to have been)00. In a new country like the Valley, with the constant influx oflew settlers, the picnic is of great social value. People get to knour»ach other and to feel that they are a part of the community.
