Deutsch: Den Namen Schweineinsel verdankt Svínoy möglicherweise der Schweinezucht, die auf den Färöern im Mittelalter weit verbreitet war. Anderen Quellen zufolge könnten die ersten Siedler von einer gleichnamigen norwegischen Insel stammen. Svínoy ist eine der sogenannten Außeninseln an der Peripherie der Färöer, die nur per Schiff oder Hubschrauber erreicht werden können. In der Kirche von Svínoy befindet sich der vermutliche Grabstein von Svínoyar-Bjarni, dessen Schwester Guðrun der Färingersaga zufolge die Mutter des mächtigen Wikingerhäuptlings Tróndur í Gøtu war. |
