Description

Helmet Plate of the Force, wore prior to 1901. The badge is bi-metal, the wreath of thisltes in brass beign possibly a standard device for use with a 'personalised' centrepiece.

The centrepiece is the crowned wildcat of Sutherland in white-metal.

This is a rather heavy, bulky item whicvh would probably have not been the officer's best friend while trudging thorugh the glens, weighing the helmet rather overmuch to the front. As the froce then numbered no more than a dozen, and has no wording to indicate its origin or identity, this badge is a rarity to say the least. In am not aware of anybody else with this badge in their collection.
