EOMANO-BRITISH OEMETEHY, SEAFORD, SUSSEX. 185 town. With such evidence of E/Oman occupation, theexistence of a cemetery is not surprising. The spot wasdoubtless selected from its position with regard to GreenStreet, its close proximity to the camp, and the softnature of the ground, its situation being upon the top ofa natural mound of light sand, forming part of an outlierof the lower tertiaries. At the southern extremity ofthe mound the sand is quarried for building material.Eeposing upon these sands is about 3 feet of made earth,and the greater part of the whole area is now overgrownwith furze bushes. The excavation of this site was commenced on the5th June, 1868. The first trench cut was from east towest, it being a likely spot, as suggested by the Rev.John Harison, who informed us that it was near thesite where the five urns were discovered in the year 1825.Three men were employed at this place for the greaterpart of a day (this section is marked No. 1 on the plan)without any suc
