English: Nippon ryakushi, “A Brief History of Japan”. The Goddess Amaterasu Omikami's younger brother, Susanoo no Mikoto, was banished from Takamagahara. The artwork shows Susanoo no Mikoto slays the 8 – headed serpent Yamata-no-Orochi upstream of the river at Hirokawa in Izumo Province. Published by Izawa Genjiro, 1887. Designed in the same format as the set Dai Nippon shiyaku zue, 1879. An extremely rare triptych. Very fine impression and colour. Signed Taiso Yoshitoshi ga.
