Description

International Development Minister Lynne Featherstone next to an anti-FGM/C poster of Kadidia Sidibe, the founder of the Association Malienne pour le Suivi et l'Orientation des Pratiques Traditionnelles (AMSOPT). The poster states 'L'excision peut tuer' which means 'FGM or excision can kill.'

The First Lady of Burkina Faso is the Founder and President of the SUKA Foundation. The Suka clinic performs small procedures to open scars caused by FGM/C - this is often called a reversal or de-infibulation.

While the operation is often called a reversal, this can be confusing because it does not mean that any tissue that has been removed can be replaced. However, it enables survivors to give birth safely.
