Description
English: Traditional sweet pancake breakfast item in Konkani households ( Gaud Saraswat Brahmins).Surnoli is a breakfast dosa item either slightly sweet the yellow version or not sweet the white version prepared mostly in Konkani households ( GSB) .Two versions of Surnali’s are prepared ‘Godi surnali’ (sweet dosa) and ‘Cheppi surnali ‘(bland dosa) .For cheppi surnali ignore adding jaggery,rest everything is same...Best part is was I just love the sweet batter.Surnali is best relished with homemade butter or ghee..But I like it relish on its own with chutney or ghee as I dislike butter in direct form. This is one of the softest dosa.Traditionally a piece of fresh turmeric is added while grinding for the flavour and colour but we may add powder also.More the coconut is added softer the surnali’s turn out.The recipe is common among all Konkana’s with slight variations.The dosa batter includes turmeric, little jaggery,poha,curd,dosa rice ,parboiled rice all ground to a fine batter and fermented overnight. I have shared the pic of the dosa made in the traditional iron tawa in our houseas is most of the dosa made in the coastal areas of Karnataka.
