We have described herein one method of castrating acryptorchid horse where the cryptorchidy is due to an arrestin the development of the gland and of its descent. Thereare other methods employed which introduce variations atat each step, many operators making the incision over theexternal ring instead of near the median line and it is evenmore common for the operator to avoid opening the internalring and penetrating the peritoneal cavity somewhat in frontof and above it through the small obhque muscles. Whenone plan has been learned the variations are easil)^ applied.There are other causes of cryptorchidy in rare cases whichrequire a different procedure in order to extract the glandwhich varies with particular cases but the essentials for thediscovery and recognition of the testicle are the same.
