Title
English: Surge tanks at the Seattle water system control works, ca. 1923
Description
English: Nowadays, about 22% of the water from the Cedar River watershed flows to Lake Youngs, southeast of Renton, Washington, before being distributed to Seattle and suburban water users. In the 1920s, workers built two surge tanks at the control works near Lake Youngs. These open-top tanks helped regulate the water pressure when reservoirs were filled or other large demands were made on the system.

This photo, taken in the early 1920s, shows the two large metal surge tanks under construction. The tanks were located in Fairwood, between Renton and Lake Youngs. The photo may have been taken by James Lee of the Seattle Engineering Department.
